What documents do I need to renew my vehicle licence disc?
A copy of your ID card (back and front), proof of address not older than 3 months and a picture of the disk or the logbook/RC1/Natis.
How long does it take to renew a licence disc?
It takes 24-48 hours, depending on the backlog at the licensing department. Load shedding, water supply, strikes, public holidays and systems being offline can affect the licensing department and cause closures.
What happens if my licence disc has expired?
You have a 21-day grace period in order to get your license disk renewed before you start incurring penalties.
How do I apply for a duplicate car log book (vehicle registration certificate)?
We can apply for this on your behalf, we would require your original ID card/book and drivers license in order to verify the owner and scan it at the licensing department, we would also require a copy of the logbook or a picture of the disk and a proof of address not older than 3 months.
What do I need to register a new or used vehicle?
For a new car, we require a copy of your ID card (back and front), proof of address not older than 3 months, and the first registration certificate/manufacturer’s note from the dealership. For a used vehicle, we require a copy of your ID card (back and front), Proof of address not older than 3 months, and the original logbook/Natis/RC1.
How do I get new number plates?
We would need a picture of your disk to verify the number plate, then we can have a set of plates made for you, we can have it couriered to you or dropped off at a dealership we service or you can collect from our office in Musgrave.
Can I personalise my number plates? What’s the process?
Yes you can personalise your plates, we require a copy of your ID card (back and front), proof of address not older than 3 months and a picture of the disk for the vehicle which you would like to allocate the number to, as well as 3 options in order of preference for your personalised number (consisting of 7 numbers or letters) The application is sent to Choice Numbers in Pietermaritzburg for an approval of your option, this can take 2-3 weeks. Once an approval is received we can have it allocated to your vehicle.
What’s the difference between standard and personalised number plates?
Standard ZN plates are assigned to a vehicle, once you do a change of ownership you cannot move or retain this number unto your new vehicle with the current ZN numbers, whereas with a personalised plate you own this number and can allocate it to any car you purchase.
How do I apply for a police clearance certificate?
We would need to pull a RPC at the licensing department for the clearance to be done, we require a picture of the disk or a copy of the natis/RC1/logbook. Thereafter the original RPC with the vehicle would need to go to the pound for the clearance to be verified. After verification, the RPC needs to be returned to the licensing department for them to have it cleared on the eNatis system, and a new disk will be reprinted.
What’s involved in a change of ownership process?
When buying or selling a car, you would need to do a change of ownership, where the current logbook will be handed in at the licensing department, and a new one with the new owner’s details will be printed and issued. We require a copy of the new owners ID card (back and front), proof of address not older than 3 months and the original logbook/RC1. The vehicle will also need to go in for COR or roadworthy in order to obtain a valid disk.

How much do these services typically cost?
Our service fee starts from R250 for any standard vehicle licensing procedure, such as renewals, change of ownership, etc. Personalised plate applications and duplicate logbooks are costed higher.
What documents do I need for a duplicate or original BRNC certificate?
A copy of the company’s full CK documents, proof of address on the business name, proxy letter and proxy ID.
